Viruses In Traffic Exchanges
"I wrote a blog the other day about using Traffic Exchanges for free advertising and someone who runs the forum immediately jumped all over me for writing it because she said that traffic exchanges are notorious for viruses. Are they really any more dangerous than any other place on the web or is she just misinformed or looking for a reason to jump down my throat?" |

I do Link Referral and Traffic Swarm on a fairly regular basis. Yes there will be sites that have viruses, however, any good anti-virus program will stop everything dead in it's tracks, so no worries. The worst virus I have come across was from general surfing on the web, the well known "fake virus alert". The latest version of it is an absolute nightmare to get rid of, it's capable of running in safe mode. It took me several hours to defeat this virus after it was re-created to run in safe mode. I've read were several people have given up and completely reformatted their hard drive. Regards

Autosurf is what they mean, most manual surfs are fine. I have gotten some pretty crazy search hijackers using autosurfs. Some pages will download and install virus just by you viewing them. Don't surf with firefox or IE.. use google chrome. Most text ad exchanges do quality control. Just make sure you report ones that are malicious. Lastly, make sure your anti virus is always on.

The comment about Traffic Exchanges and viruses was obviously both incorrect and ill-informed, because the reality is that there are people trying to inflict their mischief all over the internet, and Traffic Exchanges are quite often attacked by these efforts because of their very nature. Users specify a website which is checked, but once it has been passed, it is relatively easy to change the actual site while keeping the same address, but as so many people have pointed out, the excellent anti-virus programs that we all use, usually spot the fakes quite quickly. If you are not using one, this should be a wake-up call to make sure you install one pronto.
