First off, a blog is a website. They are one in the same. A website may or may not be a blog though. THE BEST WAY IS TO IMPLEMENT BOTH. PERIOD. Why? A website will be your market, your idea, your structure, your backbone. Your blog will be your "reaching" material. You blog ABOUT your site. By doing this you are building a network. Networking is what will take you to the top. (Once you achieve the smaller feats.) Yes it is enough to reach people. That isn't the question I think you should be asking. The question is HOW? How is by applying correct promotion. BY generating a buzz or concern about your topic.

Thank you - I agree 100%. A blog is a website. Difficult concept for some. I've also taken this approach one step further, and made a Facebook Fan Page for my brick and mortar and website. I post links from the store and blog and that generates traffic, sales and new customers.

i use a combination of both, my blogs are linked to my website, and vice versa creating nice links. My website traffic increased quite noticeably once i started to do this. I also now use facebook business page which is detectable by google, all my friends are fans, so they effectively advertise my site to all their friends and so on and so on.

I'd say blogs for the simple fact that they are free but now you can find places to host your own website or webpage for free but usually they have restrictions I think google actually offered this

Well, actually, using blog and website are same way to reach people. Blog is very easy to post some word and media, and easy to organize setting. While website is same like blog but little complexto setting, like create using some flash animation with better quality a whole thing your site. But, in the end result, is the same result your content what you made ( depending your content what you need ) Sorry to explained too long and complex, but that is a truth info.

Are you trying to: - sell your own product? - make money as an affiliate? - make money from advertising such as Adsense? - Or you simply want to share your knowledge with the world (and make some money in the process)? Set your objective first. If you are trying to sell your own product, the answer is obvious. You should first have your product website. You should start a blog ONLY when you have a list, and you should blog with 2 intentions in mind: 1) to build relationship with your list and make more sales, and 2) to build more traffic from the search engines. Why not make your website a blog? :-) I believe it depends on the method of advertising and your market. LinkReferral I believe is a good place to use your blog. If you have taken the time to visit sites there are a lot of good ones out there. Any other advertising such as traffic exchanges I would use a website that has been designed as a capture page. It should be fast loading as some of the timers are less than 10 seconds. SEO, PPC, I would use either a blog or website with an opt-in form but one that is custom designed and using a unique domain name. With these your focus is to get as many keywords picked up during a search that in turn brings in traffic. Regards Shondra |

Hello Phil, I personally think that a blog or website isn't enough. I think that you should always try to reach people in every way possible. You know start a conversation with someone and get them interested in whatever your site or blog is about. You can also post ads on free sites. There are lots of different ways to reach people.

I read somewhere that most companies are noticing that blogs are generating more sales for them than their normal company websites. I agree it's better to have both as you need the main site to showcase the products you will be blogging about

It depends on what you're hoping to achieve. If you are looking to give off a very professional appearance, you will either want a website hosted on your own domain or you could get a free blog and a forwarding domain. If you're just looking to share with family and friends, go with a blog.

What's wrong with having a blog on your own domain with paid hosting too? I have several of them and they look very professional with premium templates.

yup i agree with this. if it's more for business or something professional a website is the better choice. blogs are more personal cause they're more about your experiences and whatnots. :)

Blogs are only personal if you choose to make yours that way. There are MANY business blogs that make far more than a "traditional" website.

This has really helped explain the difference to me, a newbie...but I'm still a bit confused. If you blog and link to your site, how do you get people to your blog? I know it sounds stupid, but like I said I'm just starting. I have both, a blog and a site and still cannot get any hits.

A blog is more of a traffic magnet than a website because they usually get updated frequently, which brings the SE's knocking on your backdoor. So, use the blog to bring the traffic and then filter it to your website.

Thank You...I appreciate the direction. I'm so lost with all of this. The blog is something that I spend the most time on. I'll have to update with more links and see what happens.

Combined together both because you can use your blog to create organic traffic that can be directed to your main website for whatever it is you wish to promote Many say blog because it is free but you are usually limited to what you can do with it and if you wanted to monetize it wit adsence or even sell your own advertising space you would probably not be able to do so also with this in mind most websites hosting sevices give you the tools to set up a blog along side your website which greatly improves your page rankings for your main website and you also have full control over every thing so if you are serious and take advantage of all revenues from advertising possible the website should pay for itself from advertising revenue alone also leaving you room to run your own promotions or just have a web presensce and be able to say what you want and brand your self for whatever your passion is.Great question!Your sure to get a 1000's of different oppinions on this but that's mine.Good luck!

The people who posted above talking about blogs being free and not being able to put your own ads on them are only talking about the free hosted ones from places like wordpress.com It's important to know the different between the 2 kinds of blogs. You can get a free blog at blogger/blogspot.com, wordpress.com or many other places just the same as you can get a free website at bravenet, weebly or many other places. You can also own a blog on paid hosting just like a "regular" website. I have both kinds. Saying the advantage of a blog is that it is free is missing the point, as there are free websites as well. You also can put your own ads on any blog you host yourself. Just keep that in mind when choosing.

Hi, I have an artblog and take part in challenges, which is an easy way to get views/hits, etc. by commenting on other people's blogs. I also have a FanPage on Facebook where I promote my 'business' and a blog connected to my ArtFire Studio. I use Twitter too - and I have a website domain, but I found paying a low subscription fee to ArtFire, where everything was already set up and pretty much customisable, was easier than actually building my own site. Link Referral is proving to be a simple way to increase my traffic, so I'm really glad I joined!
