you will need to get your feed back up this makes the consumer think that you are reliable and the best way to do this is to buy cheap e-books or very low items once you get about 20 - 30 feed back from the Sellers you will find that people will start to bid on your goods

Excellent advice Chris !Chris is right, you would have to build up your feedback first ( feedback padding) to let customers know you are a reliable eBay member. No one likes to buy from a seller with a zero feedback score.

More imprtantly than anything else you need to be selling a product people want to buy and actively looking for. If you have that and list at a comtpetive starting price, the bidding will go up and it will work well.

Yeah, I understand how postage can turn off a potential buyer. The problem is that postage is so high...especially for shipping my products, which is glass. Glass requires proper protection against breakage so that makes the package even heavier. I only charge what I am charged. If I overcharge, I give a refund. If I undercharge, I end up eating it!! Yup, I lose money left and right!! So, before you discount purchasing something because of postage, stop a moment and give it some thought. Are you buying a greeting card that has $4.00 postage?? If so, then you might decide to walk away. Are you buying a medium sized pottery piece that has $11.00 postage??? If so, it is most likely a very accurate shipping charge. Also consider if you're buying a one-of-a-kind piece or not. I will happily pay that actual high shipping charge for something that every other person doesn't have and cannot get. Soooooo, there are more considerations than the knee jerk reaction of Gee the shipping is really high!! Just thought you'd like to hear from someone who doesn't cheat the buyer and is forced to spend more on shipping.

Same here Mary ! I use calculated shipping and since I have my own scales I am able to pre-weigh all my items. Most of the time it works really good. Like you, if the shipping is over then I refund the amount, if under than I just eat the charges and take it off my taxes.I have never once received a complaint about shipping costs and I sell collectible pottery, glass and china on eBay. As one customer told me not to long ago ( after I apologized for the high shipping cost)that the shipping cost was cheaper than gas, driving from California to Georgia to get the item. LOL, I have sold items on eBay to International customers, where the item sold for $20.00 ( example) and they happily paid for International shipping of $40.00.

I wasn't saying that every one charges over the Top for Postage but you must admit there are some who are very Greedy on their Postage. Mary etc must be some of the Sellers who do weigh their Items and work the Postage out, unfortunately not everyone does this, I wasn't trying to offend anyone.

I've been selling on eBay for a few years now and enjoy doing it. If you have enough inventory it might be worth setting up a store or just start off doing auctions. I also have a store on ecrater.com and sales from that are horrible.

Hi Ged.No, you absolutely didn't offend anyone. I so totally agree with you that there are those that overcharge every chance they get. My comments were directed at everyone reading this forum to try and share reasons why some of us are forced to charge higher postage than some anticipate or expect. The ones that overcharge to just get more money can really hurt people like Pam and me because on the surface it can appear that we are overcharging. Mary :-) Re the OP's question. Because ebay has become so expensive, I think to be successful, you have to have lots of items that are sought after by the public at large.
